For decades, fluorinated compounds have been used in a variety of products, ubiquitous in our daily lives. However, their extreme resistance to degradation poses risks to human health and the environment. The European Commission has regulated these “forever chemicals” for years, and now scientists seek sustainable alternatives.
EU identifies non-PGM electrodes for alkaline water electrolysis as an innovation that responds to current market trends and needs, highlighting ANEMEL partners the University of Galway, Ireland, and Industrie de Nora, Italy, as “Key Innovators”.
ANEMEL brings together a team of experts with a broad range of backgrounds. Altogether, our consortium will leverage its expertise to develop an electrolyser powered by green energy sources and based on non-critical raw materials.
The European Commission “hop-on” facility promotes partnerships between ongoing projects and research institutions from Widening Countries. This programme enabled a new partnership with the Jožef Stefan Institute in Slovenia, which joined the ANEMEL consortium to expand the expertise in the design of catalysts with abundant elements.
Researchers, start-ups, companies, and representatives from the European Commission have gathered at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in Tarragona to discuss the future of green hydrogen as a sustainable solution to decarbonise our economy.
ANEMEL co-organised an in-person event in Brussels on the sustainable sourcing of seawater. The workshop gathered multidisciplinary experts from academia, industry, and policymaking to discuss topics beyond green hydrogen generation, including desalination, energy generation, energy storage, and resource mining, among others. Almost 100 experts attended, showcasing the great interest among the community on reducing the environmental impact of water utilisation.
ANEMEL is co-organising an in-person workshop to discuss the importance of sustainable sourcing of water in the generation of green hydrogen, as well as the production of clean chemicals, renewable fuels, minerals, and more. The event will take place at the premises of DG RTD in Brussels, on 8 and 9 June 2023.
Last week, an event in Brussels marked the signature of a new agreement to boost the hydrogen economy in Europe. EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel committed to accelerating joint actions in the development, demonstration and deployment of Hydrogen Valleys, therefore contributing to key principles of the European Green Deal, the roadmap towards a climate-neutral continent.
Representatives of the ANEMEL project connected with the other 8 projects funded by the European Innovation Council to develop green hydrogen technologies.
