ANEMEL marks midpoint with Newcastle upon Tyne meeting

For two days, representatives from the ANEMEL consortium gathered in the British city to discuss the latest progress of the project and plan future work.

We are now back from the recent ANEMEL team meeting in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Twice a year, the consortium partners meet in person to discuss the project’s progress, as well as plan and prepare future research activities. These meetings provide invaluable opportunities to gather feedback from colleagues and, importantly, to strengthen team bonds—an essential aspect, as we are 11 partners from 9 different countries. This time, we were kindly hosted by our partner at Newcastle University. Many thanks for organising! This was our second meeting of 2024, coinciding with the project’s midpoint, and marking two years since its launch. The previous meeting took place in Milan, Italy, thanks to our Italian partner DeNora.

It was two days of intense work, during which we reviewed the deliverables accomplished so far and those tasks currently in progress. A multidisciplinary project like ours has a lot to discuss! This included sharing information on the development and characterisation of catalysts for our electrolysers, assessing the performance of cell assemblies, and deciding how life cycle assessment and costing of the different steps can be carried out. In fact, one of the highlights of the meeting was the workshop led by our colleagues from WP5 Sustainability, where we all had the opportunity to learn and engage with their eco-design approach to the development of our electrolysers.

This meeting also provided an opportunity for us to share our challenges and collaboratively tackle the areas we find most difficult, emphasising that teamwork unites us. Additionally, we brainstormed ideas for the future of ANEMEL—there were numerous questions and suggestions, making these sessions particularly fruitful. It wasn’t all been work, though. We also had time to relax and enjoy fun experiences together, as the photo below shows. The dinner was delicious!

The next meeting will take place in Galway, Ireland, in April. This time, our project coordinator, the University of Galway, will play host. We’re looking forward to it! And who knows, some surprises might be in store… Stay tuned to find out 😉.
